The Color District — Milano Design Week 2026
An installation created for “The Color District”, the Colorificio Group event held during Fuorisalone.
“The Color District” is an experiential journey designed for industry professionals, where each space conveys a vision of colour, materials and design through different languages and technologies.
Within this context, we have shaped the installation “Origin – Expression – Application”, a work that tells the story of material, from its most authentic origin through to its transformation into a design language. From this emerges Fassa Bortolo’s ability to bring together the origin of materials, building culture, aesthetic expression and technical expertise.
The path unfolds as a gradual transition, from material depth to creative freedom, and finally to design precision: every surface is far more than a visual outcome — it is identity, it is vision, it is structure.
With this work, Cristiano Pasqual pays tribute to Alberto Burri, one of the greatest exponents of Informalism, who made material the absolute protagonist of his work.
ORIGIN
Material as a form of building culture.
This is where everything begins.
Material appears in its purest form. It is not merely a product, but origin, simplicity, tradition, the foundation of our building culture.
Material textures seem to convey inherited knowledge, a balance between nature and humankind.
At the core of every project lie solid roots, grounded in authenticity and substance.
EXPRESSION
Colour and finish as the language of space.
The journey continues, and material changes tone and form.
It comes to life, takes on colour, and is shaped. From foundation it becomes language: it interprets, suggests, and gives form to imagination, becoming the tangible expression of an idea.
A restrained palette, selected with design precision, interacts with surfaces, measured contrasts, dynamic gestures. Every choice conveys intention and identity, resulting in the perfect combination for any environment.
Material is no longer presented as a simple element, but is transformed into expressive freedom.
A refined freedom, capable of generating style and setting trends.
APPLICATION
Technique becoming design.
Having revealed its essence and expressive potential, material enters real space: it becomes structure, system, architecture.
Light lines, clean geometries — behind the beauty of the finishes lies a world of solidity, expertise and reliability, offering a wide range of design solutions.
Among the surfaces, technical details and fragments of materials emerge.
Material becomes precision, structure, design.
WITHIN THE MATERIAL
Completing the installation is a sequence of cubes decorated with different finishes, textures and grain sizes, inviting visitors to perform a simple, primal gesture: to touch.
Each surface tells a story: the softness of lime, the compactness of plaster, the vibration of a more textured decorative finish. It is a tactile journey that allows differences and details to be perceived, and the material to be experienced in its authenticity.
These cubes demonstrate how each product can be transformed into sensation, atmosphere and identity.
It is a way of drawing the viewer’s gaze to the true nature of the materials, beyond theory, beyond image. Because only through touch can one truly understand how a surface will interact with space, with light, with the environment in which it is lived.
This is the point at which material comes to life.
