FRCM systems

Low-thickness external reinforcement solutions with FRCM composites for concrete or masonry structures.

FRCM (Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Matrix) composites are materials that can be used to create low-thickness external reinforcement (plating) systems for existing masonry structures. They consist of an inorganic matrix reinforced with a fibre mesh. In cases requiring connections, the system is completed with pre-formed or braided connectors for connection to the structural element to be reinforced.

Common FRCM systems include alkali-resistant fibreglass meshes with high strength and flexibility combined with sulphate-resistant cement mortars or fine-grained natural hydraulic lime mortars compatible with the most common historical masonry.

ComponentsRequired: fibreglass meshes, cement or lime-based mortar
Optional: pre-formed or braided connectors
Application thickness5 ÷ 15 mm (after levelling the substrate)
SubstrateMasonry (brick, stone or tuff)
Examples of useShear and flexural reinforcement of masonry walls
Reinforcement of arches, masonry vaults, brickwork infills and partitions
Exterior ringing of masonry structures.
