Description

Saint Rémy de Provence is an historic village built on one of the oldest archeological sites in Europe. Visitors can fossick among the remains of the “Comptoir de Glanum” which was founded in the 3rd century BC, before control passed to the Romans under Julius Cesar.

The project is located in the center of Saint Remy de Provence, house numbers 5 and 7 in the pedestrian zone on Rue Carnot in Saint Remy de Provence.
Hotel de Tourrel d’ ALMERAN Maillane is a hotel particulier of a noble family who was in service of the French king. The house was built 1650 as a private residence. It served as town residence and was used for representation expenses.
The remarkable architecture , the classic strict Renaissance façade stands out with its clarity and its sculptural roof edge with 7 immense gargoyles as well as its monumental staircase made of solid sandstone.

In memory of the premiere of the opera Mireille by the composer Charles Gounodund in the first floor of the building in 1863 a sculpture was placed on the southwest corner of the building in 1909.

In order to realize the project two buildings were bough:
the historic Hotel Particulier on house number 5 and the annexe (house number 7), which, originally, belonged to house number 5.
The project reunited the hotel particulier, which was divided during the centuries. With redesign of the annexe No. 5 the stand-alone buildings Hotel de Tourrel and Hotel de Montdragon got a modern link.

To realise the hotelproject it was necassary to buy the two houses.
The hotel particulier with the houes No.5 ; plot 421  and the neighbourhouse
with the house No.7 plots 614-615
– parts of them belonged originally to house No.5

Due to the project it was possible to unite the hotel particulier how it  was at the time of construction
 in 1650.
During the centuries a lot of the old structure has been changed and damaged.
With the restructuring of the house number 5, the two famous and in former times freestanding old buildings, the hotel de Tourrel and the hotel de Montdragon  received a new contemporary link between.

To create the inner courtyard with the roof top terrasse and the pool
a small house, that stretched into the courtyard as side wing of house No.7, has to be demolated.

The newly created area below the 1.35m deep pool, forming the courtyard ceiling is currently expanded as “Chef Table” with a small exclusive dining area and a vertical garden with herbs, that combines visually the dining room with poolterrasse.

The main building No. 5 has a roof terrace at the southwest corner, which was enlarged in course of raising the eaves of house No.7. By increasing building No. 7 a maisonnete suite with a private terrace could be build.
